Extracts building heights from VHR satellite imagery shadows using vertex-comb ray casting.
The TECRS Building Height Extractor is a geospatial processing tool designed to estimate building heights from Very High-Resolution (VHR) satellite imagery. By inputting 2D building footprints, shadow polygons, and the image capture time, the plugin automatically computes the solar azimuth and elevation angles. It utilizes a Vertex Comb ray-casting algorithm to accurately associate buildings with their cast shadows, calculates the maximum shadow length, and computes the building height in meters using ellipsoidal trigonometry. This tool is ideal for urban planning and remote sensing workflows where 3D extraction from 2D optical imagery is required.
