This plugin has an experimental version available!

Two independent tools in one plugin.

CONVERSION (requires ODA File Converter, installed separately — free, opendesign.com): four Processing algorithms under Processing Toolbox > DWG / DXF Conversion — "Convert DWG file to DXF", "Bulk convert DWG folder to DXF", "Convert DXF file to DWG", and "Bulk convert DXF folder to DWG". Bulk conversions skip files already converted by default (safe to re-run), validate the input folder up front, enforce a timeout to avoid hanging on blocking dialogs, and report exactly which files failed. Successful DXF results can be added to the current project automatically. No dialog required — runs via qgis_process, Processing models, PyQGIS scripts, or QGIS's built-in batch runner.

LIVE SYNC (no ODA dependency — works standalone if you save directly to DXF from AutoCAD): a dockable panel that watches DXF files on disk and automatically reloads the matching QGIS layer whenever AutoCAD saves changes. Loads from a shadow copy rather than the original file so AutoCAD can always save without QGIS locking it, waits for the file to stop changing before reading it (not just a fixed delay), supports pause/resume and manual sync, keeps optional version history, logs all activity, shows per-file sync status, and persists the watch list into the QGIS project so it's restored automatically next session.

Works on QGIS 3.x and 4.x, Windows/macOS/Linux (headless Linux needs xvfb for the conversion algorithms only). Developed by Kelvin Moseti — linkedin.com/in/kelvin-moseti-welkinsgroup
