Universal AI assistant to manage QGIS with natural language (Gemini, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Claude, Ollama)
AI Copilot turns natural-language requests into PyQGIS code and runs it in QGIS: geoprocessing with any Processing algorithm, styling, OpenStreetMap downloads, basemaps, coordinates, print layouts and export to many formats. It works with your installed plugins, loads data only from links you provide (with a preview and your confirmation) and lets you choose which layers the AI sees.
Requirements and restrictions:
- An AI provider is required: either a cloud account with an API key (Google Gemini offers a free tier; OpenAI, Anthropic Claude and DeepSeek are paid services) or Ollama, installed separately, for local models (https://ollama.com).
- Internet access is needed for cloud AI providers, basemaps, OpenStreetMap downloads (Overpass API and Nominatim) and data links. The QGIS network settings (proxy, SSL, authentication) are used.
- Privacy: your request, a summary of the project (layer and field names, CRS, map extent, installed plugin names) and the printed results of executed code are sent to the selected AI provider. With Ollama everything stays on your computer.
- AI-generated Python code runs inside QGIS with access to your files and project. By default it runs only after you review it and press Run Code.
- No additional Python libraries are required (Shapely is used only if it is already installed). Pure Python, no binaries, no regional restrictions.
- A demo test (TIN terrain map of Izmir with a reference check script) is included in the test_data folder.
