Cartometric analysis of historical maps: Helmert, affine and polynomial transformations with full statistics, outlier detection, distortion grids and isolines, and estimation of the map projection the map was drawn in.
Modern QGIS plugin inspired by MapAnalyst, built with Python, NumPy and SciPy (Qt5 and Qt6). Computes Helmert, affine and 2nd-order polynomial transformations between a historical map scan and a reference map with standard errors, cross-validation, Baarda outlier test, model comparison (AICc), spatial autocorrelation of residuals and Tissot-based local distortion analysis. Estimates the most likely map projection (Bonne, Cassini-Soldner, equidistant conic, Sanson-Flamsteed, trapezoidal, Mercator and more) and draws its graticule on the scan.
