Optimize population coverage for humanitarian (cash, in-kind) distribution points.
Distribution Point Coverage Tool is a QGIS plugin that helps humanitarian and development practitioners analyse and improve the spatial coverage of service and distribution networks.
The tool combines three simple inputs:
- a CSV file with distribution point coordinates,
- (WorldPop) population data (GeoTIFF or CSV), and
- a planning area shapefile.
It allows users to create buffers, calculate how much of the population of a planning area is covered, and identify underserved areas. A population hotspot function highlights high-density clusters, supporting evidence-based prioritisation.
Optimisation features suggest improved positions for overlapping or poorly located distribution points and can automatically place new points in uncovered high-population areas. All suggested locations can be manually adjusted in QGIS to reflect field knowledge and operational constraints.
