about=Maps lie. Every flat map distorts the globe, and the everyday web map draws Greenland like a continent although Africa is about 14 times larger. 02TrueSize brings the true-size comparison into QGIS and goes further.
Grab any country, any polygon from your layers or an ADM1 region and drag it: the outline is re-projected under the cursor so it always covers its real ground area. Size Duel shows four countries and asks which is biggest, then reports how much the projection misled you. The Distortion tab recommends a projection for your area, grades the current CRS, draws Tissot indicatrices and shows a live distortion readout. Truth Tools add antipodes, great circles, an area-ratio matrix with CSV export and a one-file HTML report.
World boundaries are bundled; ADM1 regions are downloaded once from Natural Earth. Made for teaching projections, scale and spatial reasoning.

changelog=
0.5.1 - Hub listing text rewritten; author Geophilo; university affiliation removed; documentation links use the standard geophilo.com pages (manual.html, guide/); manual HTML no longer ships in the plugin package.
0.5.0 - Redesigned 3D studio icon (Mercator vs True-Size Greenland inside Africa with Tissot ellipses); spherical equal-area ring integration and rhumb-line/geodesic bearing math; post-drop ghost rotation controls and double-click pan; expanded CRS recommender catalog (Equal Earth, Winkel Tripel, TUREF/TM30, Polar Stereographic); dark-theme Size Duel silhouettes with 1-click Drop on Map; interactive SVG scaling and multi-ghost table in HTML Truth Lab reports; headless QGIS runtime test suite.
0.4.6 - Upgraded official plugin icon to high-end tactile 3D brand identity with circular teal pedestal; synchronized documentation, repository and issue tracker endpoints to GeoPhilo and GitLab.
    0.4.4 - Qt6 Dialog Compatibility & New Full-Bleed Icon:
Fixed: Replaced the deprecated QDialog exec_ call with Qt5/Qt6-compatible exec in the Area Ratio Matrix dialog.
Changed: Rebuilt the plugin icon as a high-contrast, transparent, zero-margin globe and true-size comparison emblem.
0.4.3 - Interactive 2D OD Matrix Grid Dialog:
Added: Authentic 2D Origin-Destination (OD) Area Ratio & Mercator Distortion Matrix Grid Dialog (QDialog + QTableWidget) replacing text message box.
Added: 4 Matrix view modes (Combined OD View, Distortion Factor Lie Multiplier, True Geodetic Ratio, Mercator Apparent Ratio).
Added: Color-coded heatmap cells, interactive cell click inspector, global benchmark fallback, and 1-click CSV matrix export.
0.4.2 - Individual Silhouette Zoom & MultiPolygon Fix:
Changed: Size Duel cards now zoom to each country's individual bounding box so silhouettes fill their cards equally, requiring real geographic knowledge rather than scale comparison.
Fixed: Resolved MultiPolygon geometry type conversion exception in HTML Map Truth Lab report exporter.
Changed: Upgraded action button icons for Area Ratio Matrix (⚖️) and Map Truth Lab HTML Report (🔬).
0.4.1 - 4-Choice Size Duel, Automatic Canvas Cleanup & Stability:
Changed: Size Duel upgraded to 4 choices in a 2x2 grid with a single correct winner and polar Mercator deception preference.
Added: Automatic map canvas artifact cleanup on panel hide/close (removes ghost rubber bands, temporary layers, markers, HUD, and resets map tools).
Added: Prominent, high-visibility "Clear All Canvas Ghosts" button with distinct styling and tooltips.
Fixed: Resolved Ghost attribute errors for center_lat and wgs84_ring in Area Ratio Matrix and HTML report exporter.
    0.4.0 - Major feature update:
Added: CRS Distortion Recommender & Projection Optimizer with 1-click canvas projection application and purpose filters (Equal-Area, Conformal, Compromise).
Added: Pairwise Area Ratio Matrix comparing true geodetic area ratios vs Mercator apparent visual area ratios with distortion factor multiplier.
Added: Standalone Interactive HTML "Map Truth Lab" Infographic Exporter with live SVG latitude slider and Tissot honesty report cards.
0.3.3 - Palette-aware adaptive theme; prominent drag button.
Changed: replace the hardcoded light-only stylesheet with palette-derived colour tokens so the entire dock stays readable under QGIS light, dark and high-contrast themes. The dock now listens for PaletteChange and re-applies the theme automatically.
Changed: the "Pick up & drag" button is now a large primary action, visually separated from the other tool buttons, because the true-size drag is the heart of the plugin.
0.3.2 - Removed stale geoBoundaries GitHub/LFS vector links that returned HTTP 404/500. ADM0 now comes instantly from the bundled 238-country layer; ADM1 is filtered from Natural Earth's official public-domain 10m states/provinces archive, downloaded at most once per panel session. Missing ADM1 coverage receives an ADM0 suggestion and Kosovo codes are mapped consistently.
0.3.1 - Corrected the online data workflow: choose a country and download only ADM0 country or ADM1 first-level administrative vectors through geoBoundaries gbOpen; current-canvas Overpass queries and non-administrative polygons are removed. Source, year and license metadata are preserved on the memory layer. Selecting Built-in world countries now checks its visibility control, adds or repairs the 238-country layer and zooms to the world.
0.3.0 - Built-in bounded OpenStreetMap polygon acquisition for the True Size workflow. Download administrative boundaries, buildings, land use, leisure, natural and water areas from the current neighbourhood-scale view through an asynchronous, cancellable Overpass request. Successful data becomes a styled memory layer and a dedicated drag source automatically. Includes hard 6 km per-side and 25 km2 request limits, response validation, rate-limit feedback, pure request tests and an OSM data-plan document.
0.2.1 - World-layer reliability and tab-caption fixes. The bundled country layer is inserted above basemaps, zooms to a safe world extent, appears automatically when world picking starts and falls back to a raw-GeoJSON memory layer if OGR cannot open it. Qt now measures tab captions with their actual bold font; variable-width emoji moved to tooltips so labels no longer truncate.
0.2.0 - Icon redesign and GUI overhaul. New toolbar icon in the 02-family visual language: a glowing mint outline landmass (the size the web map claims) versus its solid coral true size, crisp at small sizes. The dock now pins its own light design system so it reads identically under QGIS 3 light and QGIS 4 dark themes: header with icon and tagline, teal tab badges, white card panels with per-tool accent stripes, clearly highlighted active tool buttons, and theme-proof combos and lists. The projection report card renders its grades as coloured chips (green A plus down to red F), the Size Duel gets hover highlights, a round counter and a smarter action button, and ghost list entries carry full tooltips. No behaviour changes; verified end-to-end on QGIS 3.44 LTR and QGIS 4.
0.1.0 - First release. True Size drag tool: pick up any country (bundled offline Natural Earth layer) or any polygon from your own layers and drag it anywhere; the ghost outline is re-centred through an equal-area azimuthal projection so it always shows its true ground size on the current project CRS, with live area label, rotation keys, multiple coloured ghosts and export-to-layer. Size Duel guessing game with Mercator-drawn silhouettes, streaks and a per-round confession of how much the projection lied. Projection honesty report card (area and shape grades plus verdict) for the current project CRS, Tissot indicatrix circle layer generator and a live distortion heads-up display on the canvas. Antipode finder with land-or-ocean verdict, great-circle versus straight-map-line comparison with wasted-kilometres readout, and fun-unit area and distance measurements (football pitches, Central Parks, Belgiums, marathons, trips to the Moon). Fully offline, no external dependencies; verified on QGIS 3.44 LTR and QGIS 4.
