CrossSectionDigitizer licensing and attribution
==============================================

Original contributions
----------------------

Original CRESCENT contributions are licensed under the BSD 3-Clause License in
LICENSE.md, except where a file carries a different license notice. Retain the
BSD copyright notice, conditions, and disclaimer when redistributing that code.
The repository-level BSD license does not override file-specific licenses or
grant rights to third-party code beyond those provided by its authors.

Existing file-specific notices
-----------------------------

The following Plugin Builder-derived files retain notices granting use under
GNU GPL version 2 or, at your option, any later version:

  __init__.py
  cross_section_digitizer.py
  cross_section_digitizer_dockwidget.py
  Makefile
  pb_tool.cfg

The following test files also retain GPL version 2-or-later notices:

  test/qgis_interface.py
  test/test_cross_section_digitizer_dockwidget.py
  test/test_qgis_environment.py
  test/test_resources.py
  test/test_translations.py

test/test_init.py carries a GPL designation without an explicit version.
Its existing designation is preserved, without asserting a different version.

Plugin Builder provenance is recorded in the generated source headers:
https://github.com/g-sherman/Qgis-Plugin-Builder

Third-party test notices identify Ivan Mincik, German Carrillo, Tim Sutton,
and the Australia Indonesia Facility for Disaster Reduction. Preserve the
copyright and author notices in those files. The test raster's provenance is
recorded separately in test/tenbytenraster.lic; that file is not a BSD grant.
Other inherited support files retain their existing attribution; this note
does not assign them a new license.

COPYING.GPL-2.0.txt and COPYING.GPL-3.0.txt contain the unmodified GNU license
texts, obtained from:
https://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.txt
https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.txt

Installed dependencies and combined works
----------------------------------------

QGIS and PyQt are installed separately and are not bundled in the plugin ZIP.
QGIS is licensed under GPL version 2 or later. Riverbank offers the open-source
versions of PyQt5 and PyQt6 under GPLv3, with a separate commercial license as an
alternative. Qt has its own licensing terms, distinct from PyQt's.

BSD 3-Clause permits combination with GPL-covered code, provided the BSD
notices are retained and the applicable GPL obligations are met. Importing
QGIS or PyQt does not relicense those dependencies under BSD, and distributing
them separately does not by itself remove obligations for a combined work.
GPLv2-or-later notices permit selection of GPLv3 for a combination requiring it.
This does not change the BSD grant on independently reusable original code.

Release contents
----------------

Release packages include this notice, LICENSE.md, both GNU license texts, and
README.md, alongside the source files and their existing notices. These texts
document the applicable grants; their inclusion does not relicense files.
