Welcome to PlaceMarker’s documentation!

Concepts

Place Marker offers a convenient way of creating and handling placemarks in a vector layer. The preferred dataprovider for the layer is Spatialite. This eases synchronisation of placemakers over multiple running QGIS instances. The plugin also works with other vector data providers if the required attributes are present in the layer. Creation of a new layer is only supported for spatialite.

Configuration and Operation

  1. Activate the dialog by clicking on the toolbutton or on the plugin menu entry.
  2. Select a layer from the combobox. The available layers fullfill the necessary requirements.
  3. If no layer is available a new spatialite layer and a database if needed can be created by clicking on the toolbutton. The new layer contains the necessary attributes
  4. In the layer properties enable labeling and configure symbols and symbol classification
  5. To set a placemark click on the canvas. The geographic position is displayed and the time is updated. To confirm the placemark click Apply
  6. By checking the Autorefresh box the layers are checked every five seconds for modifications and will be repainted if necessary.

General Hints

  • A basic labeling is applied to new layers. For existing layer loaded into the project, this has to be done by hand in the layer properties.
  • The appearence of the symbols can be changed in the layer properties.
  • The class can be used to apply different symbols depending on the class. Select Categorized or Rule-based in the style panel of the layer properties.
  • The class combo box can be extended by additional classes. Remove a class with CTRL-Delete
